Cill Barra Community Sports Centre Operation Transformation 1000lb Challenge!
To herald the arrival of a new year, Cill Barra Community Sports Centre is looking for people to help them achieve their target weight loss of a staggering 1,000 lbs.
As part of an exciting new “focus on fitness” initiative for 2019, the centre will host an Operation Transformation Challenge to get the local community fit and healthy, while having fun in a relaxed group setting.
Cill Barra Community Sports Centre has set a weight loss challenge to support Waterford people in losing ‘1,000lbs’ as a group…that’s the equivalent of 453.5 bags of sugar!

As part of a new inclusive city-wide healthy lifestyle programme the Centre is taking a proactive approach to assist with tackling the obesity epidemic locally and has prepared a programme that will pull out all the stops to make the community a healthier place!
In place for the Operation Transformation journey we have Shane O’Sullivan of Inspiring Excellence, he will be the Mind-set Expert. David Phelan from the Cill Barra Community Sports Centre is our Fitness Expert, and we also have a Nutrition Expert.
According to Sinead Brannigan, Cill Barra Community Centre Manager, the 1,000lb challenge is the Centre’s biggest undertaking to date. “We’re very excited by the prospect of starting the new year with the introduction of a city-wide initiative that will help people get moving, get fit and get out and about with old and new friends. It’s a massive challenge but if we can help one person to make a change for the better it will be worth it.”
Sinead acknowledged the support of the business community, “Without doubt this programme would not happen if it wasn’t for the support of local businesses that are passionate about supporting a healthier Waterford city. Ball Cooperation, Jack Molloy, Walsh’s Bakehouse, Mulligans Pharmacy, Whitfield Clinic, and Waterford Area Partnership have gotten behind the initiative whole-heartedly and we’re very grateful for their invaluable support.”
Five local leaders have already been selected as the faces of the programme and you can follow their progress throughout on the Cill Barra Sports Centre Facebook page. If you would like to sign up to the 8-week Operation Transformation programme and help them to reach their weight loss target of 1000lbs you can register online on Eventbrite (search Cill Barra Community Sports Centre Operation Transformation).
The programme will run every Monday at 7pm in the Cill Barra Community Sports Centre. Limited early bird places are available for €22.20, once the early bird places are sold out the fee then increases to €30. This fee covers your weekly weigh in, weekly exercise session, and nutrition/fitness/mind-set expert talks in a fun and supportive environment.
