R.V. Keary at Dunmore Harbour Festival 2019
The Irish state research vessel R.V. Keary is an aluminium catamaran designed for near shore survey work. She is ideally suited in this role due to her stable twin hull construction, shallow draft, retractable equipment pod and hydraulically operated A-Frame and winch.
The R.V. Keary is typically crewed by a team of three individuals: skipper, surveyor and data processor. Acoustic sensors attached to the vessel record characteristics of the seafloor and shallow sediment. The R.V. Keary operates primarily in Irish waters as part of the INFOMAR programme, a collaboration between the Geological Survey and Marine Institute, but has also surveyed in UK waters as part of the EU-funded CHERISH programme.
To confirm the R.V. Keary will be open for visitors on Saturday and Sunday 10am. – 12 and 2pm. – 4pm.
