The War in Spain – Imagine Arts Festival
The War in Spain returns to Waterford for Imagine Arts Festival’s 25th anniversary. The photographic exhibition is on display at Jordan’s American Bar from 20 to 25 October 2026, during pub opening hours.
Waterford-born Eoin Ronayne photographed and edited the black-and-white landscape images. His work traces places connected with the Waterford men who travelled to Spain to fight fascism with the International Brigades between 1936 and 1938.
The War in Spain exhibition
Ronayne is a former broadcast journalist and retired trade union leader. His interest in the story began after interviews with Irish Brigade veterans for RTÉ in 1988, including Waterford’s Peter O’Connor. The exhibition brings landscape photography together with this chapter of local history.
After a spring showing at the Index Gallery in Waterford Central Library, the work returns for the festival. Visit Jordan’s during its open hours to view the photographs and make time for the historical connections behind them.
