Waterford Walls 2017 launching in style.  The team from Waterford Walls is delighted to announce it will return in August 2017. The project, now in its third year, is widely recognised as one of the leading visual street art events in the country, attracting top national and international street artists along with plenty of visitors who help to boost footfall and trade for city retailers. The unique visual street art event sees artists transform spaces around the city with the creation of outdoor murals.

To mark the launch of this year’s project, the Waterford Walls team is delighted to host an event with a difference. Designed to highlight the importance of ‘re-imagining spaces’, Dermot Bannon, celebrity architect, will speak about the value of projects like Waterford Walls which has seen buildings such as the Ardree and entire local districts transformed with unique and impactful artwork created to enhance the aesthetic of the city.

The lunchtime launch event will take place on Thursday 11th May in the Old Presbytery building which is a space identified as key for regeneration. It will include a short excursion to explore some of the most famous murals.  Attendees will be in for a treat with input from both Dermot Bannon and renowned artist, James Earley. The event will include plenty of time for discussion and all attendees will receive lunch. Speaking about the launch event, founder and lead organiser Edel Tobin said; “Since 2015 the project has evolved and grown placing Waterford firmly on the international street art map. Following last year’s exceptional success we are planning an exciting programme for 2017 and are delighted to be welcoming Dermot Bannon for our unique launch event. Waterford Walls murals can now be seen all over the city and beyond which highlights their universal appeal. All proceeds from the launch will be used for the project and we are asking people to continue to get involved and support this truly exciting and inspiring creative spectacle which has had such a transformative impact.”
