HOW TO FALL FLAT ON YOUR FACE
A new play written and performed by Katie Honan
How to heal from a broken face, how to heal from a broken heart, how to heal from the inside out.
A journey into the inner workings of Anna — a Waterford woman — who falls flat on her face and spends a day in a London hospital corridor, waiting. Her face is broken but from the neck down she is unmarked with red nails, skinny jeans and heels. Sitting in a city that is not her own, Anna’s mind wanders between past and present.
She reminisces about her life in Waterford but her warm memories of home are interrupted by her present surroundings!
She is obsessive — about most things. Food, body, home, routine and planning. She is committed to perfection, so much so, she will chase down a stranger in SuperValu to get the right bunch of tulips, stopping a lady buying the last cream bunch, because Anna needs that particular colour to match her tea towels.
A funny and dark deep dive into how ‘sweating the small stuff’ can escalate…
Where does your mind wander when you wait?

A play about falling flat on your face (literally) and finding the ability within to rebuild.
With an exceptional creative team, most of whom are from Waterford, this new play opens on International Women’s Day, March 8th and explores mental health and body image through an innovative storytelling style. Anna’s extreme way of thinking and detailed imagery of day-to-day life is recognisable and humorous, drawing the audience into her mind’s workings, leaving you think about the lengths we all go to achieve perfection.
“My commitment to having a corner couch was time consuming. I couldn’t decide on one for weeks, then months. I wanted to find the perfect shade of yellow, not mustard, not lemon, something in between”
How did Anna fall, and will she find her way home?
