Here at Waterford in Your Pocket we just love Waterford People-especially the ingenuity of their vernacular tongue! Here are some hilarious snippets overheard in Waterford this week!
1.
I overheard this wise advice passing by a couple on the Quay just last weekend-and couldn’t help but think- what did someone wear out of prison in the 1930s?? Either way I would have paid good money to see that suit-or the look on her face when he first wore it.
2.
I heard this gem at a gathering in the Uluru during the week; Honestly now, I thought tractors came in John Deere, Massey Ferguson or the colour blue. I myself had no idea there was no such thing as a tractor that ran on turf!
3.
This is one of my favourites, overheard on Michael Street between two young wans. Who knows if she was talking about a relative , friend, or partner, either way, hell hath no fury like a willful Waterford woman. Whether he wanted her to put on the kettle or put on a gúna for him, he was in for it.
4.
I caught this side of a phone conversation strolling down Thomas Street last Friday. Classic. I do hope Dooley gets out of ICU soon, and never does a long haul flight again.
5.
This brilliant deduction was offered to me by a lovely girl I met in Tully’s bar last week. Following my anecdote about a guy who treated me with particular rudeness, the local lass kindly explained to me he was just being a knob because he has a receding hairline. There’s logic I can’t argue with I guess?
