The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens Tramore

Opens for Easter

The South East’s Newest Visitor Attraction The Stunning Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens Tramore, will open for the 2016 season from Easter Saturday the 26th of March and will remain open throughout the the year from Thursday to Sunday including Bank Holiday Mondays.

The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens have a wonderful and unique story to tell. In their style and planting they contain elements of the gardening traditions of the countries and cultures traversed by Lafcadio Hearn during his varied life.

The journey begins in a Victorian Garden to commemorate Hearn’s happy childhood summers in Tramore. There is an American Garden, a Greek Garden and a traditional Japanese Tea Garden, in addition to a Stream Garden, ponds, a waterfall and an extensive woodland area.
The main elements of design, in particular the use of rocks and water and the plant selection, are influenced by the tradition of a Japanese Strolling Garden.
The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens
The vision was to create a garden of international importance, which would appeal to lovers of Japanese gardens and to literary fans of Hearn worldwide. As the first garden in the world to reflect in its design the course of Lafcadio Hearn’s life, and to encapsulate themes from his many books, it  provides a fascinating visitor experience. The project has deeped the cultural connections between Ireland and Japan. It has also affirmed and reclaimed an important part of the heritage of Tramore and Ireland.  Check out the Gardens Website and Facebook page.
