Winterval bring a new experience to Waterford this Christmas with Wizards + Dragons exhibition, running at City Hall, Waterford City from 29 November 2019 to 5 January 2020.

For thousands of years, one mythical creature has captured the hearts and imagination of cultures throughout the world. The Wizards and Dragons exhibit celebrates the wonder of dragons and gives visitors of all ages the thrill of seeing them brought to animatronic life.

Find out how wizardry and the black arts influenced these mythical and magical creatures through spells, tales and legends.
Visitors will be immersed in the tales of dragons, which appear in the folklore and history of nearly every region and culture, from the Welsh valleys to the Saharan plains. Interactive displays offer a full sensory experience. Visitors, no matter what their age, will be in awe at this spectacular exhibit and its environment. Not to be missed!

The eighth annual Winterval festival features a jam-packed programme of over 60 free and ticketed events and kicks off on 23 November with the turning on of the city’s Christmas lights. Attracting over 500,000 visitors each year, highlights include Santa’s Grotto returning to the enchanting 750-year-old Choristers Hall and Undercroft; and Winterval On Ice, a 600sqm ice rink of real ice at the new location of Bolton Street Car Park. Visitors can journey through the heart of Winterval on the Winterval Express Train and Horse Drawn Sleigh; and the iconic big wheel, Waterford Eye, is at Merchants Quay. There will be a free festive wonderland by Ireland’s renowned street theatre company, Spraoi at Constitution Square and a brand-new 3D music and lights show for Winterval Illuminates at Cathedral Square.
