Gavin James
With Over Two Million Singles Sold, 800 Million Worldwide Streams and a Platinum Selling Debut Album, Gavin James is back with “Only Ticket Home” and a headline appearance at Daytripper 2019 on Saturday, 1 June.
On Sunday 30 June 2013, Gavin James made his first Irish festival appearance with the opening slot at the first Daytripper in Bolton Street. Very few in that audience would have known who he was, but everyone was impressed by his amazing voice and the quality of his early songs. Fast forward 6 years and Gavin returns to headline Daytripper as a global recording star and one of Ireland’s most successful live acts having sold out the 14,000 capacity 3Arena and performed to a full main stage crowd of 35,000 at this summer’s Electric Picnic, with many calling it the set of the weekend.
Gavin’s total streams are rapidly heading toward the One Billion mark, making him one of the most successful streamed acts in the world. His breakout hit single “Nervous” from his platinum selling debut album “Bitter Pill”, has to date achieved over 200 million streams on Spotify, reached No.1 in Holland, Top 10 in France, Ireland and Norway, going multi-platinum in these and several other international markets. The debut album also achieved Platinum Top 5 sales in his native Ireland and reached the Top 5 of the album charts across Europe. Gavin’s collaboration with Alan Walker on the single “Tired” also reached platinum sales around the globe and worldwide stream figures of over 200 million.
One of the most genuine and humble artists in music, Gavin had this to say about his sophomore album ‘Only Ticket Home’ (released in October) – “I’m So happy to release the album to the world. I have been on the road constantly since the release of my first record “Bitter Pill” and this new collection of songs are about the whole process of being away from home and the people you love (it’s also about how amazing it was to be on tour and travel around the world for the last 3 years). The songs came very quickly after “Always” was written. The record as a whole is very far away from “Bitter Pill”, I really wanted to step a bit away from the world of ballads with this one so the majority of the record is fairly upbeat. It’s very much a record of happy sad songs”.
The lead single “Always” (Mixed by Mark Ralph – Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne, Years and Years, Rudimental) has already reached 40 Million streams to date and is now platinum in Ireland, and No.1 in Brazil. Second single “Glow” was released with a brilliant video shot in and around his hometown of Dublin, featuring iconic locations that kick-started Gavin’s career and featuring several cameo’s including his parents and famous musicians. Gavin James’ worldwide ‘Only Ticket Home’ tour starts in January 2019 with venue, arena, stadium and festival dates throughout the year, including a triumphant return to Daytripper on Saturday, 1 June.
