St Patrick’s Day Parade
So many of us look forward to the St Patrick’s Day Parade every year and thousands took to the streets of Waterford City and indeed many parts of our beautiful county yesterday to celebrate all that is great about Waterford. What amazes me every year is the amount of clubs and societies that are in Waterford. These clubs would not be able to function without the dedication and passion of the volunteers that work tirelessly to enhance the lives of so many people.
From sports, scouting, theatre, festivals, music, rescue services and culture, the list goes on. All these organisations share the common thread of volunteerism and without them what would we have? I shudder to think.
The St Patrick’s Day parade is not just a celebration of our nationality or our patriotism it is a celebration of pride in the place where we live. It’s a celebration of all that our community is about, a celebration of us.
Regardless where you are from it is your community and being involved in that community can only make for a better life.
We’re blessed here in Waterford not only for the natural beauty, history and heritage but also for the men and women who give their time and energy freely to enhance the lives of so many.
So as we look back on St Patrick’s Day let’s celebrate all those people who make Waterford a great place to live.
