Renew Enterprises Waterford

and their Top Tips for Spring Gardening

Renew Enterprises
Spring has finally sprung and it looks as though the winter is now over. Brightly coloured flowers are widely visible, particularly magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons. As the weather becomes milder, many people turn their attention to their lawn and some may have already given it the first cut of the year, given the mild weather we have had this year.

Here are our 5 Top Tips for Spring Gardening:

Renew Enterprises

1. Clear the Lawn
Before cutting the grass, rake away any leaves, sticks or rubbish that might have gathered
on the lawn over the windy winter months. Preparing before cutting will lower the risk of
damaging your lawnmower, particularly its belts and blades.
2. Just a Trim
To begin with, set your lawnmower on a high setting so that only the tips of the grass are
cut. Over the next couple of cuts, gradually lower the setting but take care not to cut it too
short. About 5-8 cm is the desired height of a lawn and this will also keep most weeds at
bay.
3. Mow Early
For best results, mow in the mid to late morning when it’s cool but the morning dew has
dried off.
4. Service your Lawnmower
Like all engines, lawnmowers need a good service from time to time.
Renew Enterprises offers a full service that includes:
– Oil Change
– Spark Plug Replacement
– Blade Sharpened
– Tune-up
and all for the bargain price of €30 this month!
5. Enjoy your garden
At the end of all that hard work, don’t forget to sit back, relax and make the most of enjoying your manicured lawn.

Renew EnterprisesWho we are ?

Renew is a non for profit Social Enterprise operated by Treo Port Lairge CLG, set up to create full-time employment for people that have been distant from the labour market, to learn, train and practice new skills and to experience working in a real time working environment. Renew social enterprise is funded by Pobal.
A social enterprise is a business that has a social mission. Social, environmental and economic issues are fundamental and drive the business’s core philosophy. Here at Renew, we undertake to provide saleable products, with the purpose of benefiting the local community at large, and creating employment. We believe people have the right to participate fully in life from an economic, social and cultural perspective. We also support creating a sustainable future for every member of society and for societies as a whole. We are committed to social inclusion and social justice.

What we do?

Renew social enterprise consists of a range of products and services available to the Waterford community. We remain mindful of the need to price our products and services in a manner that makes them affordable. Our Workshop operates five a days a week (9am-6pm) where the repair and service of bicycles, tools and small engines takes place. A range of quality pallet furniture and custom made furniture is also produced. Items include; picnic tables and benches, bird boxes, window boxes and outdoor bars. Our ethos is to use as much recycled timber and materials wherever possible. However some of our projects may require the use of prepared timber. We also produce and sell kindling.
