About the Walk:

The sights and sounds of Crough Wood with the Mahon River running through its valley from the Mahon Falls further up the track and stemming from the beautiful Comeragh mountains are so refreshing. What ever the season this walk is always amazing. You could just get lost in the sounds of the gorge and in contrast the woodland tranquility and feel like you’re in another world in this wood. It’s a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The walk runs uphill along the Mahon River in the foothills of the Comeraghs. The Wood has 3km of walkways but the main walkway from the entrance is just 0.68 km. It’s worthwhile visiting this wood at least once each season and watch the changes each season brings taking place before your very eyes.

There are a few of picnic tables near the entrance at the start of the route.

Directions:

Take the N25 from Waterford towards Dungarvan. About a mile after the Kilmacthomas exit turn go right off the N25 at McGrath’s Cross on Waterford Greenway, following the sign for Comeragh Drive. Continue through Mahon Bridge in the direction of Mahon Falls and after approximately 1km, Crough Woods Car Park is on your right. There is also a new walkway from Mahon Bridge to Crough Woods (the entrance is to the right of the crossroads at Mahon Bridge) and the views are spectacular.
