DECLAN NERNEY LIVE IN CONCERT

with guests John McNicholl and John Hogan

Declan was born in the heart of Ireland in Drumlish Co Longford, at a unique period of time in the music scene worldwide.

A revolution in rock and pop brought us The Beatles, Elvis, and the Rolling Stones, while here in Ireland the magnificent showband boom was about to explode.

A young man growing up at that time, Declan was being heavily influenced by these greats and indeed was getting the rare opportunity to see most of the top showbands appear in his native town of Drumlish.

He would cajole his mother into seeing Joe Dolan, Big Tom, Philomena Begley, The Capital Showband, and many more perform when they appeared at the marquee at the end of May and early June.

From his vantage point close to the stage, he would absorb every move made by the guitarist in the bands, watching his fingers slide along the strings, hoping that one day he might be up there performing just like Dan O’Hara or Seamus McMahon.

Declan has gone on to have a super career that has spanned over 4 decades at the top of Irish Country Music winning many accolades along the way and scoring countless hits with his catalogue of trademark song.

Join him and his super live band with special guests John McNicholl and John Hogan for a nostalgic night of music, song, and laughter on the 2024 Where’s the Party nationwide concert tour.

Niamh Bury at Subterranean Sounds

Niamh Bury is at the very forefront of Irish folk music’s revival. Bury deftly pairs her luminescent, instantly recognizable voice with a nuanced signwriting sensibility that draws inspiration from folk, indie, and jazz and draws upon inspirations from artists such as Anna Mieke, Billie Marten and Big Thief. Signing with illustrious Irish folk label Claddagh Records in the early part of 2023, Bury spent much of the year establishing herself as one of the nation’s most exciting emerging artists.

On Yellow Roses fans can expect to hear 10 considered and lovingly crafted songs that conjure maps of conversations with oneself, loved ones, imaginary characters and those who have passed on to other worlds. Each is an attempt to arrive at some kind of empathy, understanding and acceptance. The music is both lush and spacious, giving the listener room to swim, dip or fly between verses.

Of her impending debut album release, Niamh Bury says: “I’m so excited to be releasing this collection of songs I’ve had with me for some time. I’m very proud of it and the wonderful people who worked on it with me. I learned so much making it and feel very lucky to be letting it out into the world.”

Waterford Musical Society Presents

EVITA

what's on in Waterford April 26th - May 2nd

The musical is based on the life of the Argentine First Lady, Eva Perón (1919 – 1952), affectionately known as “Evita” to the people of Argentina. Set in Buenos Aires, the musical follows Eva on her journey from fatherless child to ambitious actress, to the most powerful woman in Latin America—and, eventually, to a saint-like figure after her death at age 33.

Eva rises from poverty to become the wife of powerful President, Juan Peron. Through a series of flashbacks, Eva “works” her way up from a poor teenager into a woman of influence and power. After the death of her father, Eva travels to Buenos Aires and begins a string of relationships with powerful men before meeting Juan. Eva’s ultimate power and influence earn her both admiration and hatred.

This musical is slick, polished, full of drama and passion. Evita has never been performed by any Waterford theatre group, WMS will yet again set the stage alight with an emotionally charged powerful musical with songs such as Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Oh What a Circus, Another Suitcase Another Hall.

Evita gives a fascinating glimpse into the personal life of Argentina’s most influential woman.

Not to be missed in Spring 2024!

The Taste of Things (originally titled La Passion de Dodin Bouffant) was France’s submission to the 2024 Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film

In 1880s France, skilled cook Eugenie (Juliette Binoche) has worked for the famous gourmet chef Dodin (Benoît Magimel) for the last 20 years, with the two of them living under the same roof. As they reach middle-age, they can no longer deny that their professional relationship and shared passion for cooking has become something more and their relationship develops into romance and gives rise to delicious dishes that impress even the world’s most illustrious chefs. But Eugenie is fond of her freedom, wants to keep her independence and has never wanted to marry Dodin so refuses his numerous marriage proposals. He decides to convince her to change her mind by doing something that he has never done before, finally cooking a meal just for her.

This latest film from French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hùng (Oscar-nominated for The Scent of Green Papaya) is both a culinary and romantic delight. With guidance from French chef Pierre Gagnaire, Tran captures the culinary artistry that produce the delicious dishes we see on-screen in exquisite detail. A delectable feast for the senses, The Taste of Things is a stunningly beautiful romance that simmers with emotion.
