Are you tired of having the same hair cut for the last…like..ten years? Well I was! This month I decided to be brave and take on a vibrant new summer look! I went to the wonderful Ultan Hair, Waterford, and had my hair transformed from blonde to a gorgeous pink! Read on for the story of my pink hair transformation!
The first thing I did before braving the change was to meet with the stylist and colourist! Salon owner Ultan Brady is warm, polite and passionate about hair, and he reassured me we would reach the colour I hoped for. I was assigned the lovely colourist Sarah Hennessy, who spent many painstaking moments on my head to bring me from B to P!
First steps first, Sarah gave me a full head of highlights. My hair had been last coloured about six months previously and my colour was fast fading. If you’re not blessed with naturally blonde hair (I wish!) it is necessary to lighten the hair so the pink toner will cling to your colour. Remarkably, Ultan and Sarah were able to bring up the pink without bleaching my hair! Sarah simply applied a first set of full highlights, so my hair was prepped for the pink colour in a completely non-invasive way
I adored having my blonde roots back bright and shiny, but I was still keen to make the jump to pink! I returned to the salon two weeks after the first date, when another half head of highlights was applied. While pink is a gorgeous colour, it is extremely light, and so the hair must be very light in order for pink to stick. Although there is a lot of prep involved for pink hair, I was glad to be choosing such a light colour to play with. I was nervous that I would end up hating the new colour; I knew pink was the right risk to take, as this colour can easily come out of hair if you’re not happy with the result!
After the second half head of highlights, I was treated to the pink toner.I love getting my hair washed, and even got to enjoy a break in the beautiful backdoor garden at Ultan’s while I waited for my toner to set!
After a mere twenty minutes of relaxing, it was time for the big reveal. Ultan and Sarah took no exceptions with my hair, treating me to a gorgeous volumous blowdry to style my new funky look
And the result was just fantastic!
I am so happy with this new pink do! I can still keep my look neutral and professional with a black profile, or style this into a stunning summer look, perfect for festivals or summer trips!
