Granville Hotel

The Granville Hotel is a four-star, family-run hotel on Meagher Quay overlooking the River Suir. Its central position puts Waterford’s shopping streets and the Viking Triangle within an easy walk.

History and rooms

The building dates to the early 1700s and was the birthplace of Thomas Francis Meagher in 1823. Meagher is closely associated with the Irish Tricolour, first flown in Waterford in 1848. The property also has a connection with Charles Bianconi’s early public transport service. The Cusack family bought the hotel in 1979 and continues to run it. Read more on the hotel’s history page.

Accommodation includes a range of room types, with some offering views of the river. As layouts vary in this historic building, ask the hotel about a specific room feature or accessible accommodation when booking.

Food and drink

The Bianconi Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, while the Thomas Francis Meagher Bar offers food and a drinks selection that includes Irish whiskeys. Check current dining details and reserve ahead if a particular meal matters to your plans.

Parking and practical details

Direct bookings can include complimentary parking, subject to the hotel’s current terms and availability. The car park is separate from the building, so consult the hotel FAQs before arriving by car. Meeting and event spaces are also available.

The quay location makes this a convenient base for the city’s museums, restaurants and waterfront. Waterford Bus Station and Plunkett Station are within walking distance.

Waterford In Your Pocket Tip

Use the quayside location as a base for exploring the city centre on foot. If arriving by car, check the hotel’s parking arrangements before travelling.
