Waterford Lions Club Christmas Carol Concert
with
The Waterford Concert Orchestra
For many people Christmas starts with the Waterford Lions Club Christmas Carol Concert in the Cathedral of the Most Holy in Barronstrand Street with the Waterford Concert Orchestra and choirs from the city and county under the baton of Kevin O’Carroll.
This years concert has to have been one of the best to date! With the majestic setting of the Cathedral filled to the rafters the music and song lifted the roof. A stunning performance by all involved, a performance to rival any event that would take place in any national concert hall around the world. The energy that Kevin O’Carroll brings to the conductor’s podium envigorates the audience to join in with the choirs and orchestra.
A special guest this year was Glen Murphy who’s voice echoed in every corner of the Cathedral. Karen Thomkins from WLRFM had a hard role to fill with the loss of Billy McCarthy only a month ago, but fill those shoes she did and in doing so payed tribute to Billy which received a well warrented rapturous applause from the over 1,200 people in the Cathedral.
The final tally of the collection for the in aid of the Waterford Lions Club Christmas Appeal was a staggering €8,800 up from last years €7,000. The generosity of the people of Waterford is nothing short of amazing.
The St Vincent de Paul have worked with the Waterford Lions Club to identify more than 1,000 families in our community that you help to have a better Christmas. Thanks to all the Volunteers helping with the co-ordination of the buying, packing and delivery of the hampers. Couldn’t be achieved without you all.
For the first time ever the concert was filimed and will be shown here on Waterford In Your Pocket on St Stephens Day from 5pm where you can enjoy one of Waterford’s best musical moments once again. WLRFM will brodcast the concert on Christmas Day at 1pm and you can listen in on-line.
Well done to the Waterford Lions Club for organising such a wonderful event and to Kevin O’Carroll and the Waterford Concert Orchestra and all the choirs who took part. We’re looking forward to next year already.
